Last August it was announced that in addition to South Park being given a multiple season renewal, fourteen hour-long specials would be created exclusively for the Paramount+ streaming service. At the time no one knew what they would be, and given how unpredictable Parker and Stone tend to be, we still don’t know what most of them will be about. But the first two are directly connected to each other.

“South Park: Post-COVID” premiered a couple weeks ago and we’re getting the second half of the story almost immediately. Paramount+ has set December 16 as the date of release for South Park: Post COVID Part 2: The Return Of COVID, and published a trailer.

It’s the future, where mammalian meat has been replaced with ground bugs and doorbells sing. Both Stan and Kyle are grown and miserable. Wendy married someone else and Stan has to settle for a nagging Alexa hologram. “Former” anti-semite Cartman appears to have fully converted to Judaism, a move Kyle is convinced Eric is faking just to annoy him. Even after being shown a loving wife and two children, Kyle is skeptical, especially given how stereotypically Jewish they appear to be. We have our theory on what Cartman is really up to, but if we’re right it would be a spoiler, so…

Kenny is dead, of course, but only after becoming a world-renowned scientist and tech guru. The boys begin to wonder if his death was truly an accident, and start investigating. The truth turns out to be that Kenny discovered a method of traveling through time! But who wanted to stop him — and may go after the other three next? Let’s just say he’s known to be “chaotic”…

The trailer doesn’t show much, but we do know one thing: Stan and Kyle WILL make it to the past. This blurry promotional image proves as much. Watch for South Park: Post COVID Part 2: The Return Of COVID later this month.
