We are officially Doing This: after years of speculation and offhand comments, here is the first public, definitive proof that Toy Story 4 is going to exist. This teaser trailer was uploaded by Disney to the world at large today, and….you will never be the same after seeing this.
If this page is the first time you learned of the teaser, good — other sites have spoiled its contents in their opening copy or their headlines, which we will not do. This kind of experience is best served cold. I WILL say that out of all the Toy Story Teasers that have been created thus far promoting distant sequels, this one is my favorite.
Okay, now that we’ve all seen it….let’s talk about what we just saw, because it’s a lot to process.
The pipe cleaner spork is named Forky, he’s played by Tony Hale, and he’s destined to be every child’s #1 demanded toy for Christmas 2019. According to director Josh Cooley, “The world of Toy Story is built upon the idea that everything in the world has a purpose. A toy’s purpose is to be there for its child. But what about toys that are made out of other objects?”
“Forky is a toy that Bonnie made out of a disposable spork, so he’s facing a crisis. He wants to fulfill his purpose as a spork, but now has a new toy purpose thrust upon him.” That is some deep stuff, man.
It is bittersweet to see our old plasticine friends again this morning, considering what other news came out this morning. He just missed Forky! He woulda loved Forky. Toy Story 4 will be released June 21, 2019.
