Day 4 of New York Comic Con, and here’s the scene: I’m tired, I’m working off a case of con crud that I know I’m going to be feeling all week, I just fought my way off the con floor (30 minutes of wading through crowds for 5 minutes of buying stuff), and I have about an hour to get some cosplay photos before I call it a con.
Add all that up and I am feeling really jaded and grumpy. Lots of great costumes all around me, but I can’t work up the energy to lift the camera and ask for a photo. I start thinking to myself, “If I don’t run into an awesome cosplayer I already know, then someone’s really going to have to knock my socks off.”
Literally 10 minutes before I walk out of the Javits for the weekend:
REALLY KNOCKED MY SOCKS OFF
(By the way, if this is you, can you tag yourself on my Facebook post? I found a bunch of people with the same name, and I don’t want to tag the wrong person accidentally.)
AWESOME COSPLAYERS I ALREADY KNEW
Saraphina Cosplay as Mera, who you might recognize as Codex from Day 1 and Mara Jade from Day 2, who started her impromptu photo shoot seconds after I was done shooting Catwoman up there. I was just along for the ride until the Batusi shot.
And when I’m done with Mera, 3 minutes before I have to leave, I turn and spot Larry Smith (and friend) as Ruby Rhod and Leeloo from The Fifth Element. You might recognize Larry as Batman Beyond from Day 2. Or actually, maybe you won’t, but trust me: it’s him.
So thank you all, guys, for breaking me out of my funk.
