NTSF:SD:SUV:: Episode Recap – Trading Faces – Season 3, Episode 9

Sam [Martin Starr] tries out his new Trent face and persona.
Sam [Martin Starr] tries out his new Trent face and persona.
Synopsis: Trent and Sam trade faces to foil a criminal but Sam becomes a little too fond of Trent’s persona and plethora of puns and doesn’t want to give it back.

Details: Daisy has concocted a scheme allowing Sam and Trent to trade faces to successfully apprehend a criminal but when it comes time to switch faces back at the office, Sam has second thoughts and decides he wants to keep Trent’s face along with his inherent incessantly punning persona – and scurries off into San Diego with Sam’s face.

Meanwhile, Piper wants her colleagues to attend her Settlers of Catan game night but nobody wants to come because Piper tends to get to competitive so Piper takes advantage of Daisy’s trading face technology to pretend she has traded faces with others in the office to surreptitiously approach those who will not attend her game night and find out their reasons.

Trent-as-Sam becomes aware that Sam-as-Trent is trying to abscond with his face and embarks on a mission to track him down which puts both of them in various scenarios where they are mistaken for their false identities and either act according to their outward appearance or not – depending on the circumstances. Sam-as-Trent finally locates Trent-as-Sam back at the office and the two of them have a close-range shootout with pigeons flying in between them while Piper pretends to be virtually everybody in the office to get to the bottom of why people are avoiding her game nights.

Sam-as-Trent seemingly concedes and gives his face back to Trent only to have the supposedly real Trent accost Alphonse at the end of the episode and try to steal Alphonse’s face.

The Poop and Skinny: The show’s premise is based – duh – on the “Face/Off” film of the 1990s.

“The best time to be honest about someone is behind their back.” – Kove

Trent’s neighbors are played by Jack McBrayer [“30 Rock”] and Kristen Schaal [“Despicable Me 2”].
