What did Nintendo reveal in today’s live Direct video? An excellent spring lineup including Mario, Link, Captain Toad, Amaterasu, Cartman and more….and is that the Smash Bros. symbol?
We’ve taken the announced games from the video and listed them in their planned order of release. Many of the games revealed today for Switch sound amazing, and some were completely unexpected (Crash??) The 3DS, meanwhile, is treading water with an announced schedule of mostly reruns and regurgitations.
Kirby: Star Allies — March 16, with an update coming March 28
The demo is live as of now.
Detective Pikachu — March 23
South Park: The Fractured But Whole — April 24
Hyrule Warriors: Definitive Edition — May 18
Little Nightmares: Complete Edition — May 18
Unexpectedly, the Pac-Man amiibo works with this macabre-looking game. Gives you a yellow raincoat with Pac’s likeness.
Dillon’s Dead Heat Breakers (3DS) — May 24
Dark Souls Remastered — May 25
There’s amiibo functionality with this too…the “Solare of Astora” figure will be available the day of release. A “Network Test” was also mentioned so we may get the chance to try this game out for free.
Sushi Striker: The Way Of Sushido — June 8
Now coming to both 3DS and Switch.
Mario Tennis Aces — June 22
A good chunk of today’s Direct was spent explaining how Mario Tennis Aces works. Among other unconventional strategies, you can win the game by serving the ball so hard that you break your opponent’s racket.
Crash Bandicoot: N-Sane Trilogy — July 10
Yup, it’s true — the original Crash trilogy, once used as a Sony selling point, is on a Nintendo console for the first time.
Octopath Traveler — July 13
Looking every bit as gorgeous as the demo released last year. There will be a Limited Edition with a map, a soundtrack CD and a pop-up book with scenes from the game.
Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker — July 13
One of the remaining demanded Wii U ports will become a reality. There will be both a Switch AND a 3DS version.
Warioware Gold (3DS) — August 3
Like Mario Party 100 before it, this appears to be a “clip show” game.
Okami HD — Summer 2018
Splatoon 2 Octo Expansion — Summer 2018
New single-player DLC storyline will cost $19.99 upon release.
Travis Strikes Again: No More Heroes — 2018
Luigi’s Mansion (3DS) — 2018
Super Smash Bros. — 2018
We’re just as surprised as you that Smash is coming that quickly, let alone that it was confirmed before E3. Everyone expected some Splatoon Squid Kids to turn up, but the big question is: is this a port of the Wii U version, or something completely new?
Mario & Luigi: Bowser’s Inside Story + Bowser Jr’s Journey (3DS) — 2019
Undertale — listed as “eventually”
My brother was at a Smash tournament and they showed the Smash portion of the direct and everyone was just freaking out.
