Nintendo 3DS To Be Supported Through 2020 According To Nintendo

Nintendo 3DS

What’s the plan for the Nintendo 3DS? Is it really going to be supported for a few more years?

While the Wii U was failing, the Nintendo 3DS was holding down the fort through both software and hardware sales. However, with the Nintendo Switch now fully rocking for over a year, many have suspected that Nintendo would retire the 3DS. But, that’s not what’s happening, and during their recent financial briefing, they revealed that they have plans for it to go into 2020:

“In addition to the titles currently on sale we have announced the coming release of the titles shown here,” reads the accompanying text, “we are even preparing new software for release in 2019 and beyond. Our plan is to continue maintaining this business by taking advantage of new titles like these,”

It’s uncertain how Nintendo plans to keep the 3DS relevant, especially since they’ve already said that certain franchises like Fire Emblem won’t be on the system anymore. Furthermore, they’d have to plan it so that the games they release on Nintendo 3DS don’t interfere with releases on the Switch, nor undermine them. Clearly Nintendo has a plan, but when it’ll be fully unveiled is anyone’s guess, though E3 2018 may be a good start.
