How much trouble can a mentally vacuous starfish get into on his own? Nickelodeon has paid millions to find out the answer to that question, and they’ll be presenting their findings this July in the form of The Patrick Star Show, launching with a 13-episode first season.

CBSViacom announced The Patrick Star Show last summer, and at the time, no one was really sure what it was. The basic description was “Patrick launches his own talk show,” which made us wonder if this was some kind of Space Ghost Coast To Coast kind of deal. Turns out that’s not the case (shucks, we would have watched that version).

Instead, the show Patrick is hosting takes place in-universe, so…his interview subjects will be random fish, not Kristen Bell (unless Kristen Bell voices a fish at some point). Also, he doesn’t REALLY have a deal with a major undersea network. This is just something he’s kinda…doing, and it’s mostly in his head.

More to the point, the series is about Patrick dealing with his family: Bunny Star, Pat’s mom who’s described as a “kooky oddball,” Cecil Star, a “fun-loving, happy-go-lucky dad who always puts his family first,” Squidina Star, Patrick’s younger sister who appoints herself as the executive producer of his show, and his grandparents GrandPat Star and Grandma Tentacles. Patrick is a bit younger here than he is on the original series.

Bill Fagerbakke will supply the vocals for Patrick, as he has done everywhere else. Tom Wilson plays Cecil Star, Jilly Talley voices Squidna Star, Dana Snyder gives voice to GrandPat Star and Cree Summer pulls double duty as the voices of both Bunny Star and Grandma Tentacles. The regular cast of Spongebob will also make appearances on the show: Tom Kenny as SpongeBob, Rodger Bumpass as Squidward, Clancy Brown as Mr. Krabs, Carolyn Lawrence as Sandy and Mr. Lawrence as Plankton.

That’s The Patrick Star Show, coming to Nickelodeon this July. It looks like this…
