20th Century Fox has put up quite a few teasers and trailers relating to their next X-Men movie, but this one is certainly the most unique. Does anyone remember how Bioshock Infinite promoted itself with faux-historical trailers made to look and sound like an In Search Of episode? Fox has done the same thing for X-Men Apocalypse, only the parody is made a bit more obvious: this supposed early 80’s show is called “In The Footsteps Of” and the narrator isn’t Leonard Nimoy, but George Takei.
It’s a creative way to virally get the moviegoing audience familiar with Apocalypse’s origins, which haven’t changed much here from the comics or his animated appearances. “Apocalypse, the first and most powerful mutant from Marvel’s X-Men universe, amassed the powers of many other mutants, becoming immortal and invincible. Upon awakening after thousands of years, he is disillusioned with the world as he finds it and recruits a team of powerful mutants, including a disheartened Magneto (Michael Fassbender), to cleanse mankind and create a new world order, over which he will reign.”
X-Men Apocalypse comes to theaters on May 27. Oh myyyy.
