The next issue of Marvel/Disney’s new Star Wars comic book is out, and……oh, oh dear. If you plan on reading the issue, you should probably avoid reading this and all other instances of reports on this which are blanketing the Internet as we speak. Just avoid it until you read the issue, and then come back.
If you don’t care about that, then continue. Han Solo and Princess Leia Organa met someone in this issue today. Someone….special.
My first reaction was laughter. This is so Han, and it’s classic Han, the kind that shoots first, the kind of scoundrel that Leia had reasons to be repulsed by even as she felt herself falling for him. But then the laughter turned into confusion.
If this is canon, it must take place after Return of the Jedi, right? …..No. What we’re seeing here are events that take place between A New Hope and Empire Strikes Back. That’s when this comic is set. Meaning when Leia looked longingly at Han as he was being lowered into the freezing chamber, she knew he was married. Or had BEEN married. It’s canon now!
It’s possible that Sana will divorce Han between now and the events at Hoth, or more likely be killed by something. But even in that case, why does no one ever mention Sana Solo in the other two films? Will a judge come out in the last issue of this run and make everybody swear that they’re never to mention these events again “under penalty of torture”?
Heck, why does no one mention Dash Rendar in ROTJ? Was his sacrifice for nothing? Oh right, Disney wiped him from the universe and now that N64 game never happened. Just when you thought the slate of continuity was clean, though. here comes Sana Solo to muck things up again.
