New Star Wars Disney+ Series and Movie Confirmed!

Right now, fans from all over are showing their love for Star Wars in terms of posts, meme, videos, and more. And that love and faith towards the franchise is being rewarded in a major way. As Disney and Lucasfilm have announced not one but TWO new projects in the universe that will be coming both to Disney+ and movie theaters!

First up, it was announced on Twitter that Russian Doll creator Leslye Headland would be creating an untitled Star Wars series for Disney+. What the intent or the focus of the series is remains unclear at this time. However, given the success of The Mandolorian (which apparently has already been given a third season), it was only a matter of time before this happened.

The second announcement is just as interesting, as Thor Ragnarok and Jojo Rabbit writer and Director Taiki Waititi has been drafted to make a new film in the universe. Though to be clear, this one will come to theaters first. Waititi will be directing and co-writing the brand new Star Wars movie, joined on the screenplay by Krysty Wilson-Cairns.

Both of these reveals paint a bright future for Star Wars in their own right. The sequel series and the anthology films have a mixed place in the eyes of fans. For example, while The Force Awakens was generally beloved despite its “rehashed storyline”, The Last Jedi and The Rise Of Skywalker is an incredibly divisive set of films for fans to talk about. Then, there were the two anthology films of Rogue One (which was a major success and generally liked by fans) and Solo (which was a major flop and generally disliked). Add that with The Mandolorian (loved by virtually everyone) and you got a lot of properties resulting in many interesting feelings amongst fans.

But, with these new projects, Disney+ and theaters are going to be taking us to a galaxy far far away once again. And that’s a perfect way to honor to May The 4th.
