Sabrina the Teenage Witch

After the success of Riverdale, Superhero Hype reports that the CW will develop a new version of the Archie Comics character Sabrina The Teenage Witch with The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina.

The show would retail Sabrina’s origin being half-witch, half-mortal and dealing with evil forces that would threaten her, her family, and the daylight world. The show would focus on horror, the occult, and witchcraft, which is a darker tone than the previous versions.

Sabrina the Teenage Witch starred Melissa Joan Hart as a TV movie in 1996, with the film served as a pilot for the TV series that same year on ABC for four seasons, and then three more seasons on the defunct WB network.

The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina will be produced by Berlanti Productions (producers of Supergirl, The Flash, and Riverdale) and Warner Bros. Television. Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa will write the adaptation and will executive produce with Riverdale producers Greg Berlanti, Sarah Schechter, Lee Toland Krieger, and Jon Goldwater. Krieger will also serve as director.

The show could potentially debut on the CW for the 2018-2019 season.
