The Pokemon world is about to get a LOT bigger. Right now, the main anime franchsie is on Netflix via Pokemon Journeys and its soon-to arrive sequel “Master Journeys”. Also, its games are still coming out and selling millions of copies, it has merchandise selling out the wazoo making it one of the biggest brands in the world, in 2019 it had a successful live-action movie, and now…Netflix wants to jump in on that action as well.
Not by bringing another cartoon to the franchise, but rather, going and having a Pokemon live-action series on the platform. Yes, this is happening and Variety has some key details. For example, this project is VERY early in production, so you can bet that there isn’t going to be any key art for a while. Furthermore, the head of the show will be none other than Joe Henderson, whom many Netflix fans will know as the co-creator and showrunner of Lucifer. So at the very least, this show is going to be in good hands…but we have seen that backfire in the past…

You see, while it’s fair to say that many are excited by the prospect of a new Pokemon live-action series…the idea of it happening on Netflix, and just frankly happening at all, isn’t all that encouraging.
Now, some will rightfully cite Detective Pikachu as proof that this can happen, and happen well. And that’s true, but, that movie wasn’t without its problems, and it was a very narrow focus on the franchises world, and was based off of a spinoff game and not set in the “main world” if you will.
And fans have already gone to creative lengths to showcase their fears…

Yeah, that pretty much sums it up. Because they know that between Death Note, Bleach, Full Metal Alchemist, Attack on Titan, Ghost in the Shell and even Avatar The Last Airbender…Hollywood fails in making these adaptations more than it succeeds.
So…we’ll just have to see how this all goes.
