Netflix Shows Off Sonic Prime In First Teaser

Sonic the Hedgehog has more TV shows under his name than any other video game character, and though he would still hold the record if he stopped here, records are a thing to be shattered (as he’d say). So here comes his latest, Sonic Prime, due out later this year.

The teaser is rather flashy and takes full advantage of the CG animation, following Sonic as he jumps, zooms and spins, breaks Dr. Eggman’s latest bots, and clashes with archenemy Shadow. Also, Big The Cat is confirmed.

But the real truth about Sonic Prime isn’t quite revealed in the teaser. Never one to miss out on a literary trend, Sonic is going Everywhere All At Once in his latest TV adventure. That’s correct, he’s breaking into the multiverse, where he may meet Spider-Man or Rick & Morty, or perhaps Doctor Who, who would tell him “I’ve been doing this well before bloody any of you! Quit stealing my thunder!”

According to Netflix, “the 24-episode animated adventure for kids, families, and long-time fans draws upon the keystones of the brand and features the “Blue Blur” of video game fame in a high-octane adventure where the fate of a strange new multiverse rests in his gloved hands. Sonic’s adventure is about more than a race to save the universe, it’s a journey of self-discovery and redemption.” What has Sonic done that needs redeeming?

As for what a Sonic multiverse would look like, your guess is as good as mine, as most of the worlds he visits tend to look the same (with the exception of the coming video game Sonic Frontiers, which puts him in a more natural-looking setting). It would be neat if he visited some of his older TV shows, like the DIC Sonics, but rights entanglements may prevent stuff like that from happening.

Netflix is promising Sonic Prime relatively soon, during “Winter 2022.” Most of this winter will take place in 2023 with the exception of December, so we’re assuming the show will turn up then? Sonic doesn’t arrive anywhere late.
