The New York Times reports that Netflix has made a 26-episode order of a new Magic School Bus animated series with Scholastic Media, reviving and updating the long-running educational series that was a mainstay on PBS and currently lives on in reruns on Qubo. The new series will be titled The Magic School Bus 360°, and will use CGI rather than the hand-drawn animation of the original, though comments in the article indicate a return of Ms. Frizzle, the quirky teacher voiced by Lily Tomlin who led a band of children in science-based adventures. No release date for the new series was mentioned in the article, although Netflix Chief Content Officer Ted Sarandos said the original series is Netflix’s top educational streaming show and that Netflix and Scholastic were exploring more joint projects.
