How many of you have been begging Toonami’s Jason DeMarco for My Hero Academia to run on the block? And how long have you been doing it? It’s been one of the most frequent requests since its premiere two years ago. After 24 months of responses like “the rights are tangled up” and “it can’t happen right now,” your day has finally come: the answer is at last “yes.”

Toonami’s got a new quirk! We’re excited to announce the newest show joining our block: My Hero Academia! The first episode premieres May 5th at 11:30p and we’ll be showing all three seasons!

How important is this show? Well, it’s popular enough to take FLCL’s timeslot after two weeks. Toonami partially paid for the new season of FLCL (which airs this summer) and yet MHA is a higher priority….that’s how big an acquisition this is. This will be the schedule as of May 5:

  • 10:30 p.m. – Dragon Ball Super
  • 11:00 p.m. – Dragon Ball Z Kai
  • 11:30 p.m. – My Hero Academia
  • 12:00 a.m. – FLCL
  • 12:30 a.m. – JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure
  • 1:00 a.m. – Hunter x Hunter
  • 1:30 a.m. – Black Clover
  • 2:00 a.m. – Naruto Shippūden
  • 2:30 a.m. – Space Dandy
  • 3:00 a.m. – Cowboy Bebop
  • 3:30 a.m. – Ghost in the Shell: 2nd GIG

Most Toonami programs have been simply shifted a half-hour, but Black “Naruto but with magicians” Clover suffered the worst, being kicked down to 1:30 AM.

My Hero Academia premiered in April of 2016 with a 13-episode first season, followed by a 25-episode Season 2 in 2017. Season 3 will also be 25 episodes long, and new subbed episodes are currently premiering weekly on Crunchyroll and Hulu.
