Via Deadline, MTV is creating new shows via their new outlet MTV Studios with content from their library of shows for renewals/revivals/spin-offs.  Besides Aeon Flux, which was announced for a live-action revival, MTV Studios is also planning on reviving Daria as Daria & Jodie.

“DARIA & JODIE” (wt)
The iconic animated franchise is reinvented through the eyes of heroine Daria Morgendorffer and one of her closts friends Jodie Landon.  These two smart young women take on the world, with their signature satirical voice while deconstructing popular culture, social classes, gender, and race.
Writer: Grace Edwards (Unbreakable Kimmie Schmidt, Loosely Exactly Nicole, Inside Amy Schumer)

  1. I don’t know. They revived Beavis & Butt-Head, from whence Daria was originally spun-off, seven years ago, and it flopped. Who’s to say the same thing won’t happen here?

The thing is that the revival of Beavis and Butthead at least content wise was actually pretty good. I mean it wasn’t anything incredibly amazing or spectacular but… it was exactly what was advertised: Beavis and Butthead brought back for 2011 with the same quality of jokes or enjoyment you got out of the show originally. I guess it wasn’t like the best caliber of episodes but it wasn’t the worst either. It could of gone south in later episodes/seasons but the one we got was fine. The problem was well with MTV itself. The MTV that played Beavis and Butthead in the 90’s is a farrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr cry from the one where it re-debuted in 2011. To be honest after MTV stopped playing music I hadn’t really watched it again until watching those 2011 Beavis and Butthead episodes and… my god was the advertisement and seeing what MTV had become so painful and awkward and by far the worst part of the revival. I personally have no investment or interest in it’s "wannabe reality" TV shows and the like so was instantly turned off but… the fact the network is essentially STILL that shows there IS some sort of audience and people still watch it. However it’s not the same audience that grew up with or would have any use for a Beavis and Butthead.

And for that matter, a Daria as well so yeah unless MTV SEVERLY either changes itself or puts this new Daria on a different platform the same thing is just going to happen: though there is still a large fan interest in the series coming back it’s not enough to just be the total viewership and whoever is into MTV NOW isn’t going to want to watch something like Daria if it recaptures the magic of the original series as yeah that will just fly over the kid’s heads nowadays. The reason that Family Guy or even Futurama’s revivals actually lasted more then a year were still launching them on either the same or at least relative related platforms. But yeah MTV isn’t the same when Daria was a thing so bringing it back now even if they manage to recapture that lightning in the bottle of the original show won’t work as a successful relaunch unless they bring in the same crowd they have now with the old fans which I really really reallllllllllllly doubt.

  2. While I like the idea of Daria Returning, I don’t want it in the hands of current MTV, with their current anti-white, anti-male, leftist SJW agenda they may try and make Daria spew. Daria was unique in that she was apolitical, mocking both left and right wing philosophies. I simply don’t trust MTV to keep the spirit of the original series.
  3. Then, the impetus here is to keep Daria away from Empty-V this time. I think no matter where the revival goes, insofar as a Viacom network goes (i.e. Comedy Central, Paramount, Logo), it’s going to be the same thing that Neo Ultra Mike is talking about.
