Mortal Kombat 11 Aftermath is a first for the franchise in many ways. First and foremost, it’s the first-ever story DLC that the game has, picking up at the end of the “canon” ending of the Kronika storyline. Just as important though, it’s bringing in new levels, new ways to die, and three new characters to play as.
With the DLC content just days away, NetherRealm Studios has released a new trailer to showcase what is coming for you if you get the new content. As noted, Mortal Kombat 11 Aftermath takes place after the main game, where Raiden and Liu Kang have come together to beat Kronika and are aiming to use her time magic to reforge the Mortal Kombat timeline into something better than it is. They’re stopped by Shang Tsung, Fujin and Nightwolf, who reveal that without Kronika’s crown (which was lost in time due to their battle with her), that they would doom everyone.
A plan is set in motion, go back in time, get the crown, and save history. But as we all know, nothing is that simple in Mortal Kombat. And as the trailer shows, there’s conflicts old and new coming into play that’ll no doubt rearrange everything we thought we know. The Revenant version of the MK fighters are back and have a massive army at their disposal. Kronika is alive again and she wants her crown to “fix” everything, and of course, there is Shang Tsung, who cannot be trusted, and a “rematch” from the original Mortal Kombat is teased.
Alongside the story, Sheeva, Fujin and the debuting Robocop will be added to the game. As well as a new stage, the return of stage kills, and more will be part of the content as well.
Mortal Kombat 11 Aftermath will arrive to play on May 26th.
