At one point in time, the Mortal Kombat franchise was overused, completely convoluted, and was selling horribly. A sad fate that meets many franchises if they go too long and don’t evolve enough. However, then the series returned to form via Mortal Kombat IX and the franchise lived again in a big way. Mortal Kombat X upped the ante even more, and finally, Mortal Kombat 11 came in and blew everyone’s minds with its detail, honoring of history, and more.
Since its launch, Mortal Kombat 11 has brought a lot to the table. Including a slew of DLC characters ranging from 1st party favorites like Nightwolf, Sindel, Sheeva and more, to 3rd party characters like Spawn, Joker, Robocop and even the Terminator! And as Ed Boon (the co-creator of the franchise) noted on Twitter, the success of the game is growing even now, well after the game was released, and because of that, they aren’t going to stop the updates anytime soon:
After 8 million (and kounting) MK11 games sold we're not done yet. Stay tuned to see what's next for MK11 this week!#KombatKontinues

Yes, MK11 has indeed broke the 8 million sold mark, definitively making it the best-selling game in the franchise by a large margin, and so given that, it’s not surprising that the team wants to bring in more to the title. The only question is, what?
If you recall, earlier this year they brought in their epilogue story to the game and helped tie up certain loose ends. So another story, or even a sidestory, could be in line. Or, naturally, since the second DLC fighter pack is now complete, they could go and reveal a third pack. Which many fans have been asking for as some of their favorite Mortal Kombat characters are still not int eh game yet like Reptile, Milenna, and more.
But in truth, only the Mortal Kombat knows what’s coming, so we’ll just have to wait and see just how exactly the “Kombat Kontinues”.
