Variety reports that the classic Simpsons episode “Stark Raving Dad” is being removed from the show, both in syndicated re-runs, the “Simpsons World” on-demand service, and on future re-issues of DVD season sets.
In the first episode from Season 3, Homer is sent to an asylum where he meets a large white man claiming to be the King of Pop. Jackson voiced the character anonymously, but didn’t sing in the episode. The decision to pull the episode came after the HBO documentary Leaving Neverland aired this week, in which two young men accuse Jackson of sexual assault. Jackson was acquitted in a previous case in 2005.
Executive Producer James L. Brooks said “It feels clearly the only choice to make” to remove the episode permanently, in an interview with the Wall Street Journal on Thursday. He added, “I’m against book burning of any kind. But this is our book, and we’re allowed to take out a chapter.”The thread view count is
