Mewtwo Strikes Back — This Time In 3D

He has returned: Mewtwo, the vengeful psychic Pokemon with an attitude problem! And once again, he wants revenge on the human species that created him as an experiment! This time, his plan is to travel to a remote island and create bigger, stronger clones of existing Pokemon to punish humanity with! ….wait, this sounds a lot like his old plan….

Oh, no wonder. Mewtwo Strikes Back: Evolution is a remake of Pokemon: The First Movie, twenty years after its original debut. And we mean remake. All the scenes in the below trailer are shot-for-shot recreations of scenes from the original, only this time they’re rendered in CGI.

Right down to Brock crushing over the Nurse Joy hologram. No detail left out!

Of course, 4Kids did the localization for Pokemon: The First Movie and they took their usual liberties with the script. How faithful will the English version truly be….is Ash going to make a crack about the Minnesota Vikings again?

Up to this point, Pokemon movies have premiered on TV on the same channel that’s broadcasting the current season of the TV show. Cartoon Network ran them for a while, Disney XD runs them now….but this time, for whatever reason, Netflix is showing the movie instead.

You’ll be able to relive Mewtwo’s wrath and bring back old memories, and possibly share them with children of your own, when Mewtwo Strikes Back: Evolution becomes available to stream February 27.

When researchers discover and exploit a fossil of the Mythical Pokémon Mew, they unleash a creation that goes against the very laws of nature. The Legendary Pokémon Mewtwo was intended for use as a tool of destruction. But as Mewtwo becomes aware of its own dubious origin, it begins to resent its human creators and seeks revenge… It’s happening, Trainers. Pokémon: Mewtwo Strikes Back—Evolution arrives, Pokémon Day, February 27, 2020, only on Netflix.
