Last year, Capcom announced a new Mega Man TV series was entering development. We won’t see the finished product until 2017, but today we got out first peek at what the titular robot-boy will look like:
The fact that he resembles Ben 10 in a Tron suit shouldn’t surprise anyone, as Ben’s creative team (collectively known as Man of Action) are behind this new series. Perhaps more controversial is the fact that the show rewrites Mega Man’s backstory a bit, to the extent that he has a secret identity (but he’s still a robot publicly).
Press materials describe Aki Light, “a normal, upbeat, schoolboy robot. When activated, his skin re-forms–in a flurry of computer code and visual pyrotechnics–into a suit of impenetrable nanocore armor, including the iconic Mega Buster arm cannon and helmet.” We’ll get established characters like Rush, Mega Man’s dog, but there will also be new ones like “Mega Mini,” which Man of Action did not explain beyond the name.
“The best thing about Mega Man is his unflinching wide-eyed optimism and an over-the-top sense of humor,” says Man of Action’s Duncan Rouleau. “This show reflects both qualities. We’ve got it all in here, it’s hopeful, forward-leaning, action-packed… It’s full-on fun ahead!” I hope so.
The new Mega Man show will appear in 2017, in time for the Blue Bomber’s 30th anniversary.
