There have been a lot of stories that have been revitalized, rebooted and more over the last many years. Mainly because Hollywood in general has gone and taken an interest in bringing back a lot of the properties that once upon a time were the best things around. Their quality has been mixed, but some have stood out from the pack. And now, Kevin Smith is looking to unleash that good quality with his He-Man series coming to Netflix called Masters Of The Universe Revelation.
He-Man hasn’t had a major series for quite some time (the last major one being on Cartoon Network) and Kevin Smith knows that there’s a lot of potential for this series but he didn’t want to just start fresh. Rather, he decided to go and connect it quite literally to the 80’s He-Man series.
As noted by ComicBook.com, Kevin Smith revealed that everything that happened in the 80s series is canon and that Masters Of The Universe Revelation well and truly picks up where the original series left off. Even going on to say that some of the “unfinished storylines” of the 80s storyline will go and get finished in Revealtion.
But, Smith was also very clear that his series won’t be just a “He-Man rehash”, but rather, a chance to go and tell deeper stories with the characters that the other incarnations of the characters haven’t or couldn’t do.
“This series explores destiny in a fresh way. There’s a lot of reconciling with secrets, betrayal, trust, acceptance, love, and ultimately, loss.”
It’s clear that Kevin Smith has some big goals with this series, and the first stills of the show seem to indicate that the show will honor its animation roots while also looking quite modern. We’ll find out just how good the show is when it arrives on Netflix on July 23rd.
