The gaming industry as a whole has been having a bit of a hard time with major releases in 2020 once the pandemic hit. There have been a few major titles like Final Fantasy VII Remake, Animal Crossing New Horizons, and of course The Last of Us Part 2, but fans are still staving for content. Which they may now have some relief with via Marvel’s Avengers, which is releasing today.
The game is the latest in a long line of superhero titles that are aiming to deliver ‘comic book worthy’ storylines and gameplay. Which really started with the Batman Arkham series, then the Spider-Man game on PS4, and now, Marvel’s Avengers which is being made by Crystal Dynamics alongside Square Enix.
There is a lot of hype behind this game, so much so that Square Enix revealed that it’s the most downloaded beta in the history of the PlayStation system.
A heroic achievement — the Marvel's Avengers Beta was globally the most-downloaded beta in PlayStation history. Congrats to our team @CrystalDynamics!#EmbraceYourPowers on September 4 https://t.co/UVFJmEgcrq pic.twitter.com/lAMniXczWg

That’s an impressive milestone given the games on PlayStation that have been blessed with free betas. But, that also shows how much people are looking forward to this game.
This particular Avengers title follows the Avengers after a tragic event that they’re blamed for called A-Day. The Avengers disassembled after public outcry, and then years later they have to reunite in order to fight evil as well as prove their innocence. The game will feature not only the classic movie Avengers team, but also characters like Ms. Marvel in Kamala Khan, Hank Pym (aka Ant-Man) and more.
Should the game do well (which based on beta numbers, it will), this could very easily be the start of a new gaming franchise for Marvel, as there’s always ways to do sequels to these kinds of titles.
But, only time will tell how quickly people will Assemble to this game, so we’ll see how it goes.
