This is the final Black Widow trailer, Marvel says. There definitely won’t be any more until May 1, they claim. That’s a little less than two months away, a long time in trailer terms. We’ll see if they stick to their promise.
Black Widow is a prequel to the events of the Infinity War (and if you saw Endgame, then you already figured this). Chronologically, it takes place shortly after Captain America: Civil War, during a period when Natasha revisited her homeland to reconnect with friends and family.
The main reason Natasha’s ledger is red is because she originally came from the Red Room, a Russian academy that breeds assassins. Nat returns to find not only is the Red Room still producing killers, it’s doing so under the rulership of the deadly Taskmaster!
You may not know the name, but it’s going to give Black Widow problems. The Taskmaster has the ability to mimic any fighting style — all they have to do is see it in action. Natasha is up against someone who can fight like Captain America, Black Panther, Hawkeye, Spider-Man (if Sony allows Taskmaster to see his footage) and even herself! How can she fight what is basically all the Avengers at once?
She will need strong allies…she’s got her family, at least. Sister figure Yelena (Florence Pugh), father figure Red Guardian (David Harbour) and mother figure Melina (Rachel Weisz) are there to lend a helping fist, and also bicker with each other at the dinner table (we get another of these scenes in this trailer). Marvel hasn’t said who is playing The Taskmaster, or even confirmed if there’s a man or woman under the skull mask. That’s the kind of thing they want the price of your ticket to reveal.
ScarJo suits up one last time in Marvel’s Black Widow, opening May 1 in theaters everywhere.
