In advance of this year’s Free Comic Book Day, actor Mark Hamill (Luke Skywalker in Star Wars, the Joker in Batman: The Animated Series, and the Trickster in both old and new live-action Flash TV shows) has recorded his personal encouragement for people to participate in the event this year on May 2, 2015. Free Comic Book Day is an annual event where fans new and old can get free comics from their Friendly Neighborhood Comic Book Shop, discovering the source material for all those blockbuster movies, tie-in comics to their favorite movies and TV shows, and finding new and exciting reading material before it gets turned into TV shows or movies of varying levels of quality. But at least you’ll be able to raise your nose in the air and say with authority, “the comic book was better.”

Facts about Free Comic Book Day, courtesy of Diamond Comic Distributors:

  • Over 2,300 comic shops are participating across the country and around the world
  • Over 5.6 million comics will be given out for free
  • There are 50 free titles available to choose from
  • Comic shops also host special events for communities to take part in
  • FCBD is a great opportunity for those who have never read a comic before to check them out for free
  • FCBD is a family-friendly event as there are comics for readers of all ages available for free
  • You can see the 50 free comics and find a participating comic shop at www.freecomicbookday.com

Crash-landing in the forgotten land of Hubba Hubba, he is discovered by the Who-You-Callin'-Ancient One and his lovely wife Pookie. Instilled with their traditional American values, he spends his young adulthood roaming the globe, learning all the secrets of Comic-Fu. Donning battle armor fashioned from spilled chemicals splashed by lightning, he becomes the Sensational Shield of Sequential Art ACE THE BATHOUND! Look, it sounds a lot better than the truth. Born in Brooklyn, moved to Queens at 3 and then New Jersey at 10. Throughout high school, college, grad school, and gainful employment, two things have remained constant: 1) I am a colossal nerd, and 2) I have spent far too much time reading comics, and then reading and writing about them. Currently working as a financial programmer in New York City, while continuing to discover all the wonderful little surprises (and expenses) of owning your a home in the suburbs. Shares the above with a beautiful, wonderful, and incredibly understanding wife named Frances (who, thankfully, participates in most of my silly hobbies) and a large furry dog named Brownie (who, sadly, does not).
