Mario, Zelda And Pokemon Could Appear Within NX’s Launch Window

The British website MCV is stating they’ve heard from several anonymous sources that the Nintendo NX’s initial lineup will be more fruitful than usual. Specifically, that we’ll be getting new Mario, Zelda and Pokemon games all within the first six months of its life.

Zelda isn’t much of a surprise — we’ve known about an NX version of Breath of the Wild for some time now. Mario is a bit more of a curveball, given that Miyamoto spoke at E3 of having the plumber’s next game ready “in a year or two.” Of course “a Mario game” could mean several different things, like a quick and easy New Super Mario Bros. platformer to fill the gap.

We don’t know what Pokemon specifically means either, but the source promises Game Freak is involved, and they’ve never produced a console Pokemon game before. Then again, if this is truly a console-handheld hybrid, where else would the series go?

While they were at it, MCV declared those console-handheld rumors, and the detatchable controller gizmo, were “100% accurate” and that the graphics of the NX lie “somewhere between a PS3 and PS4.” In other words, AAA gaming is going to remain a two-console race for another generation.

“It’s a nice bit of kit, a bit of a novelty, but a good one,” one anonymous executive told the site. “It won’t appeal to PS4 fans. Nintendo seems set on trying to upgrade smartphone gamers. That’s going to be a big job for the marketing department.” Which is worrisome, as Nintendo’s marketing department completely botched the Wii U.

Nintendo is set to reveal the NX next month, though by that point, we may already know everything about it.
