Lego’s First Legend Of Zelda Set Revealed

In recent years Lego has partnered with Nintendo to produce collector sets, such as the Animal Crossing set from 2023 and the Mario Kart set last year, but the one everybody was truly anticipating was the Zelda set. The wait is over: the first pictures of the Lego Legend Of Zelda Great Deku Tree 2-In-1 were revealed today.

One of the great mysteries was WHICH Zelda game Lego’s first set would base itself on, as there have been many, with different aesthetics. Would you rather have a set based on Ocarina of Time, or Breath of the Wild? Lego decided to compromise and do both: this is where the “2 in 1” comes in. It’s a Lego set; it can be whatever you want.

Inside the set are pieces to build the Great Deku Tree and surrounding foliage, but there are two different trees included: the wise-looking Kokiri Forest version from Ocarina of Time, or the much older Korok Forest version from Breath of the Wild. Both are interactive: pushing a lever causes the BOTW Tree’s mouth to move, while the same action causes the OOT Tree’s mouth to drop open, revealing a dungeon entrance with a Skulltula inside.

Both are surrounded by the respective elements from the games: OOT Tree has Navi, Deku Babas, Link’s Koriri treehouse and Deku Tree Jr, while the BOTW Tree has lots of hidden Koroks and the Master Sword pedestal.

Four minifigures are included to top it all off: Young and Adult Link from Ocarina of Time, and Zelda and Link from Breath of the Wild, each with appropriate accessories (OOT Link has the Master Sword; BOTW Link has the Sheikah Slate).

The only downside to all this is that it doesn’t come cheap. The Lego Legend Of Zelda Great Deku Tree 2-In-1 Set costs the price of a Switch when it’s not on sale. It’ll set you back $300, so if you don’t have a Switch yet, you might want to get that instead. Otherwise there are a lot of references that’ll go over your head!
