If it seems like it’s taken a loooong time for Prime Video to come out with The Legend Of Vox Machina Season 3, the latest trailer may reveal the reason. The animation looks darn good — some of the best we’ve seen for this series and better than in most other series. Visuals of this caliber take a while!
So where did we last leave them….right, the world was ending. An evil gang of dragons known as the Chroma Conclave has conquered the world and are making a mess of it. Despite their skills, Vox Machina can do nothing against their thick scaly hides. Only a series of enchanted items called the Vestiges will even the odds, but those things aren’t easy to collect.
By the time the credits rolled on Season 2, the gang had obtained half of the Vestiges, which makes them more powerful than they were, but not enough to succeed. And one of the dragons seems to have switched allegiances and is offering a deal to take down the others — but can they trust him?
The trailer suggests tracking down the last three Vestiges will require a tour “through hell,” though we don’t know if Exandria actually has a hell or just someplace really hot. It’d be a good place for a dragon to hide out either way. We also see a coffin, suggesting one of the crew is going to die, but the only people who know for sure are the ones who watched all 10,000 hours of the Critical Role liveplay campaign this is based on.
The Legend Of Vox Machina stars the members of Critical Role: Matthew Mercer (Baldur’s Gate 3), Laura Bailey (The Last of Us: Part II), Taliesin Jaffe (World of Warcraft), Ashley Johnson (The Last of Us), Liam O’Brien (Avengers Assemble), Marisha Ray (Fallout 76), Sam Riegel (Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles), and Travis Willingham (Marvel’s Avengers).
There is still no word on a fourth season of this series, so it might end here, but there’s another Critical Role cartoon in the works right now based on their second campaign, The Mighty Nein. The Legend of Vox Machina returns October 3.
