Kingdom Hearts 4 Announced By Square Enix

Kingdom Hearts 4

Square Enix was teasing a major 20th-anniversary celebration for the Kingdom Hearts franchise and it didn’t disappoint. Not only did they give updates on Dark Road and Union, as well as announce a new iOS/Android title that tells an “original story” in the universe, we also got the reveal…of Kingdom Hearts 4. Yes, for real, this is happening, and the “magic” is being made in a way that apparently will be even more beautiful than Kingdom Hearts 3. At least, based on the reveal trailer.

“In the announcement trailer, Sora makes a triumphant return with an updated look at the beginning of an epic new storyline titled the “Lost Master Arc.” Beginning with Sora facing off in a boss battle against a giant enemy, players are introduced to the Quadratum, a large, expansive city set in a gorgeous, realistic world unlike anything ever seen before in the KINGDOM HEARTS series. Fans will be excited to see the return of Sora’s well-known companions Donald and Goofy, in addition to the first appearance of Strelitzia, a mysterious new character who appears before Sora in this strange new setting.”

As fans might remember, the ending of KH3 and its DLC was…controversial to say the least. To save Kairi, Sora sacrificed himself and then it was basically confirmed that he wasn’t dead, just in a place that was out of reach and…ok, it’s complicated, it’s Kingdom Hearts after all.

And Sora appearing in this hyper-realistic world is proof that things are going to get much stranger before too long. It’s also good to know that Goofy and Donald will be searching for their lost friend, but aside from that…? Who knows what’s going to happen.

Just as important, we don’t have a release date for this game, or even a window. So fans will just have to wait for Kingdom Hearts 4 to arrive…eventually.
