When it comes to the two superhero universes that are in films right now via DC Comics and Marvel, the focal points of them were the Avengers and Justice League films. But while Avengers set the world on fire when it released, the latter did not. In fact, it was technically a financial failure as it barely grossed any money. The film was noted for being “ok”, but various things behind the scenes left it far from a superhero epic.
One of the most agreed upon reasons for this was the loss of Zack Snyder (the director of the film) near the end of filming. He was replaced by Joss Whedon who did a lot of reshoots that took the vision of Justice League further away from what Snyder wanted it to be. Then, it was revealed that Warner Bros was almost forcibly trying to get Snyder to make the movie more like a Marvel film and not like how he did Man of Steel and Batman V Superman Dawn of Justice. As this news arose, so too came the rumors…of the Snyder Cut.
The Snyder Cut is the “true version” of the film that Snyder not only planned for, but prepared three movies about. Over time, Zack Snyder has talked about it, and even did a “watch party” of Justice League so that he could talk about his plans for the future.
Kevin Smith has long stated that the cut was real, and while talking with ComicBook.com, he revealed how he knew it was real. According to him, he talked with guys in the visual effects department, who noted that not only were there detailed storyboards of the film, but there were done by legendary artist Jim Lee. In these storyboards were reveals like Martian Manhunter being in the film, along with the Green Lanterns, along with the long-teased arrival of Darkseid.
Many fans have begged to #ReleaseTheSnyderCut. But whether it honestly happens…no one can say.
