Yikes….what was just confirmed in Nintendo’s latest Pokemon Let’s Go trailer? Should we prepare for trouble?
Back when this game was first announced, director Junichi Masuda said to the press it was partially inspired by Pokemon Yellow Version…which made us wonder if we’d see Jessie, James and Meowth cross over from the TV show again. We were right….lo and behold, there they are.
Let’s Go! Pikachu and Let’s Go! Eevee take place in the original Kanto region. Something else we learned today was that Mega Evolutions are possible for each of the starter Pokemon, taking your game one step beyond what was possible when we first visited this area. Mega Charizard X and Mega Blastoise are glimpsed in the trailer.
To catch Pokemon, you simply throw Pokeballs in their general direction. People are shown in the trailers flinging the joy-Cons, but it’s only optional — traditional controls will be supported. You can even play the game with a peripheral called the Pokeball Plus that transfers your main Pokemon inside the ball when you don’t have the game on. It’ll make noise inside, and you can “pet” it.
To further encourage cross-pollination between Pokemon Go and its Switch cousins, Let’s Go! Pikachu and Let’s Go! Eevee will let you transfer Pokemon between your mobile device and the Switch. All original 151 Pokemon will be catchable in the game, as well as some creatures from the Alola region, and one never-before-seen Pokemon.
