James Garner, Actor, 1928 – 2014

Actor James Garner passed away of natural causes on Saturday, July 19, 2014, of natural causes at the age of 86. Garner’s best-known roles were both on television: as the genial gambler Bret Maverick in the 1950’s western Maverick (appearing in a guest-starring role as Marshal Zane Cooper in the 1994 feature film remake starring Mel Gibson and Jodie Foster); and as James Rockford in the 1970’s detective series The Rockford Files.

Although he has extensive credits on stage and screen (TV and film), his distinctive, gravelly voice was used in only a few voiceover roles, the first of which was as Commander Rourke in Disney’s Atlantis: The Lost Empire. Garner also played the voice of God in the animated TV comedy God, the Devil and Bob; the wizard Shazam in the DC Animation short film “Superman/Shazam! The Return of Black Adam;” and as Doron in Battle for Terra.
