There have been rumblings and rumors among Nicktoon aficionados that a property from Nickelodeon’s 90’s era was headed for revival. Hey Arnold was one of the properties most believed to be it, and now we can say those theorists were right. Football Head is returning in a new feature-length TV appearance. Variety broke the story this morning.

And there may be more on the way! Spurred by the success of The 90’s Are All That and The Splat, the former just-for-kids-and-no-one-else channel is suggesting it may be mining its library for more revivals to come. Chris Viscardi, co-creator of the excellent Adventures of Pete & Pete, has now been named senior vice president of content development. Viscardi told Variety he’s in talks with other creators of 90’s Nicktoons to possibly bring them back. “We are in discussions with them now and will probably have more to say in the next few months,” he said. “There’s a good likelihood we’ll be doing more than just ‘Arnold’ in terms of doing specials.”

The original Hey Arnold! series ran from 1996 through 2004 on Nick, wrapping with a feature film that disappointed both fans and critics. It sounds like creator Craig Bartlett will be using the new movie to give the series a more definitive ending, tying loose ends and answering questions like the whereabouts of Arnold’s parents. There’s no mention of when this special will be airing, but it is likely very early in development.
