Despite being out for almost two months now, Disney and Pixar’s Inside Out 2 is STILL finishing in the top ten week after week. It’s become the highest-grossing animated film of all time. It’s the biggest breadwinner of any movie in the entirety of 2024 to date. Given all that, it’d be understandable if Disney doesn’t want to put the brakes on this gravy train, so don’t expect the home release until — oh wait, there it is.
The digital release of Inside Out 2 was announced today, and it’s astonishingly soon. You can watch the continued adventures of Riley and her head gremlins on your TV as soon as August 20 — as long as you don’t care about solid physical copies. If you do, you’ll have to wait an extra three weeks for the Blu-ray and DVD release on September 10.
Both the digital and disc versions will contain the same bonus features: two mini-docs, New Emotions (discussing the process of creating Anxiety, Embarrassment, Ennui, and Envy) and Unblocking The Vault, which is a kind of visual commentary, but only for a specific scene (WHY just one scene? You can afford more, Disney). Plus there will be these five deleted scenes:
Cold Open: “In this alternate opening, a now 13-year-old Riley awkwardly fumbles her way through an original song she wrote for a school audition.”
Broken Joy: “After momentarily being unable to drive the console, Joy worries that she might be starting to malfunction.”
Pool Party: “After Riley tries too hard to be fun at an older teen’s party—resulting in utter embarrassment—her ‘Anxiety’ becomes ‘Self-Loathing’ who then ousts our hero emotions from headquarters.”
Puberty Park: “After seeing their faces printed on ‘wanted posters,’ Joy and the other rogue emotions race through a puberty-themed amusement park while being chased by mind worker cops.”
Shame Spiral: “At a lock-in with some cool, older girls, Riley and friends play a game of ‘Never Have I Ever’ that goes a bit too far— wreaking havoc in Riley’s mind.”
For those who still want to catch this movie on the big screen, we doubt it’s going anywhere for now, but news like this indicates you’re running out of time. Inside Out 2 hits digital August 20 and Blu September 10.
