On January 18th, Xbox revealed their plans for 2024, in the form of a new “Xbox Developer Direct”. The 45 minute broadcast presentation revealed some of the major releases anticipated by Xbox this year. The games featured include:
- Avowed (Development Studio: Obsidian) – coming “Fall 2024”
- Senua’s Saga – Hellblade II (Development Studio: Ninja Theory)- release date: May 21st, 2024
- Visions of Mana (Development Studio: Square Soft) – coming “Summer 2024”
- Ara: History Untold (Development Studio: Oxide Games) – coming “Fall 2024”
- Indiana Jones and the Great Circle (Development Studio: MachineGames) – coming “2024”
Perhaps the biggest reveal was the first full trailer introducing the story, gameplay (and official title) for the Indiana Jones game. MachineGames is primarily known as the creators of the recent Wolfenstein games, which relied heavily on first-person perspective, and that trend continues with the upcoming Indiana Jones game (though there will be third-person cut scenes and moments of traversal in the world that require a third-person perspective). The trailer also reveals the likeness of Harrison Ford (though the voice acting of Indiana is provided by Troy Baker, most well known for the voice of “Joel” in “The Last of Us”.
This marks the first “Indiana Jones” video game (outside of Lego games and appearances in Fortnite) since “Indiana Jones and the Staff of Kings” in 2009. Todd Howard, the Director and Executive Producer of Bethesda (the parent company of MachineGames) revealed in the Developer Direct that he’s been wanting to make an Indiana Jones game for years. It was also revealed that the time setting of the game was to take place between “Raiders of the Lost Ark” and “The Last Crusade” (in other words, the best time period in the fictional hero’s life).

Though the release window given in the presentation was listed only as “2024”, most are anticipating it to be released late in the year (in November or December), though any possible setbacks (or extra time needed for polishing) could push the game into early 2025. But for now, look for “Indiana Jones and the Great Circle” to be released on Game Pass (on Xbox Series S and X, and on PC) in 2024.
