Hyrule Warriors Age Of Calamity Revealed For Switch

Hyrule Warriors Age of Calamity

The Legend of Zelda is one of the most important franchises in Nintendo history, and it was the series that kicked off the age of Nintendo Switch with the incredible Breath of the Wild. It told a new Zelda story while breaking many conventions in the franchise’s history and developed something that gave fans something to play for 100’s of hours as well as winning many game awards. A sequel is being made right now, but today, Nintendo shocked many with the reveal of Hyrule Warriors Age of Calamity.

This prequel game is set 100 years before the events of Breath of the Wild. Set in the time just before the great calamity that set the events of BOTW in motion. Much like all Warriors titles, you’ll be choosing a character and going up against hundreds and even thousands of enemies in intense battles as you try and prevent the inevitable.

The original Hyrule Warriors was on the Wii U, and told a completely original story set in the Zelda “timeline”, so Hyrule Warriors Age of Calamity is a bit of a unique thing as the game doesn’t just look like Breath of the Wild and has all the main characters like Zelda, Link, the King, and the Four Champions, but it’s an honest continuation of Breath of the Wild for players to enjoy.

This game came about because Breath of the Wild creator Eiji Aonuma was impressed with the original Hyrule Warriors title and noted that it would be best to use that style to convey the true story of the Calamity that befell Hyrule.

However, if you’re more interested in an update on Breath of the Wild 2, Aonuma noted that the game is still in development and that you would have to wait “a bit longer’ for updates.

Hyrule Warriors Age of Calamity arrives on Nintendo Switch on November 20th. You can see the reveal video below.
