Actor Harry Shearer has signed a new deal to return to The Simpsons for its 27th and 28th seasons, resolving a contract dispute that was rooted in Mr. Shearer’s requirement for “freedom to do other work” in his words. Mr. Shearer voices characters including Mr. Burns, Ned Flanders, Principal Skinner, Rev. Lovejoy, and Kent Brockman, and Simpsons producer Al Jean stated his expectation to re-cast all of Mr. Shearer’s roles if he did not return to the show. Mr. Shearer’s contract will be identical to all the other Simpsons cast members: a two-year deal with an option for another two seasons for an estimated $300,000 per episode.
