Harley Quinn Returns This Summer, With A Spinoff To Follow

Before we begin, I’d just like to remind everyone that UNDONE SEASON TWO PREMIERES TOMORROW ON AMAZON PRIME! If you don’t like good, creative, innovative animated shows getting cancelled, it is your civic duty to keep the numbers up for this thing! Moving on…

We’ve been waiting for Harley Quinn to come back about as long as we’ve been waiting for Undone (actually, Undone was longer, but it’s still a wait of freakin’ years). Season Two of HQ came shortly after Season One because they were produced together, but when the Season 3 renewal was handed down, everyone at the office had gone home. Production had to start back up from nothing and that’s why Harley has taken so long to resurface. That and COVID.

A summer release window for Harley Quinn Season 3 was announced yesterday. And….that was it! No hints at what will happen in the season, clips, promotional artwork or anything. The best you can do is The Eat Bang Kill Tour, the comic book miniseries set shortly after Season Two’s end that DC’s been releasing these past six months (and now conveniently available in one book).

We don’t know if Harley will get a fourth season, or if it will take as long, but there WILL be something to make the wait more bearable. The Kite Man spinoff we mentioned last month has been officially greenlit for production. With no special abilities other than being able to glide on his giant kite, Kite Man is treated as pathetic even within the loony world of Harley’s TV show, but he’s been granted the chance to prove his worth.

Kite Man has wound up with ownership of the bar that Harley and various Gotham villains hang out in. “He tries to run the bar by himself but it doesn’t turn out so easy,” says Patrick Schumacker, co-showrunner of Harley Quinn and the spinoff. “We have Harley and Ivy appear in the first episode, but after that we have different goons and villains appearing every episode like Lex Luthor and Bane. It will be kind of like ‘Cheers’ for supervillains.”

We don’t know when the Kite Man show will premiere, but considering how long Harley Quinn Season 3 took, we don’t dare predict it.
