After having premiered in Japan this January and claiming the record for most successful theatrical outing in the franchise, Anime Limited will be bringing Gundam SEED Freedom to select cinemas in the UK and Ireland this March.

After almost two decades of waiting the film continues the events of the popular SEED anime after Gundam SEED Destiny, with popular characters such as Kira, Lacus, Cagalli and Shinn facing a new threat as they attempt to usher in a lasting peace for the Cosmic Era. The film is directed by Mitsuo Fukuda (who served as director of the two previous series as well).

Screenings of the film will be held the weekend of 23rd-24th March in Japanese with English subtitles, with a preview screening of the film available in London on the 17th of March. The official Anime Limited website for the film will provide details on all available venues. The listed weekend will be the only opportunity to see the film theatrically. No word yet on a release date for the United States, but we expect to hear about that soon.

The film is part of the Mobile Suit Gundam SEED PROJECT ignited initiative that was announced in 2021 (at the unveiling of the life-size Freedom Gundam” in Shanghai that year). The initiative was launched in commemoration of the 20th anniversary of the first “Gundam SEED” anime. The initiative also includes a new Gundam SEED tie-in manga and video game, along with new Gundam model kits and action figures (including recently announced figures for Kira Yamato and Lacus Clyne).

For those needing a refresher while awaiting the film to come to theaters, both “Gundam SEED” and “Gundam SEED Destiny” are available for viewing on Crunchyroll.

And finally, for those that haven’t seen it yet, here’s the trailer for the film:

Look for the film to be announced for more countries in the weeks ahead.
