Gru And The Minions Return: Illumination Releases “Despicable Me 4” Trailer

Not resting after releasing The Super Mario Bros. Movie and Migration in the last 10 months, Illumination just released a trailer for Despicable Me 4, which is set to be released in theaters on July 3rd.

In the latest installment, according to the official synopsis released by Illumination, Gru (Steve Carrell) and Lucy (Kristen Wiig) welcome a new member to the family, Gru Jr., intent on tormenting his dad, which will add on to their three adoptive daughters, Margo (Miranda Cosgrove), Edith (Dana Gaier), and Agnes (Madison Polan).

Their lives are interrupted when Gru faces a new nemesis, Maxime Le Mal (Will Ferrell) and his girlfriend, Valentina (Sofia Vergara), and the family is forced to go on the run. The film will also feature new characters voiced by Joey King (Horton Hears a Who), Stephen Colbert (Monsters vs. Aliens), and Chloe Fineman (Saturday Night Live). The film will be directed by franchise co-creator Chris Renaud, with a screenplay by Ken Daurio, who contributed to the screenplay of each of the previous installments, and Mike White (Migration).

Despicable Me 4 comes off the success of 2022’s Minions: The Rise of Gru. The Despicable Me franchise centers on former supervillain Felonius Gru, who leaves villainy behind to raise his adoptive daughters, and would go on to join a secret organization called the Anti-Villain League. The first movie was released in 2010, and has since gone on to release an additional two sequels as well as a spin-off franchise, Minions, which has released two movies of its own.

It is the highest grossing animated film franchise as well as the 15th highest grossing film franchise overall, having grossed over $4.6 billion globally during its run. In addition to the movies, the franchise has also had numerous short films, a holiday special, Minions Holiday Special, two digital series, Saturday Morning Minions And Who’s Who, as well as video games and a theme park attraction.
