The “who is stronger?” debate is honestly one of the most popular debates that can be had by fans in just about any community that has appropriate characters. Animated series, live-action TV shows/movies, anime, comics, video games, if there’s a legitimate reason for two characters to fight, people are going to ask who is stronger. And when it comes to Dragon Ball, the debates around the strength of these characters have been going on for now literal decades.
Even just the “in-fighting” of the show itself can lead to many great questions about the Z-Fighters, their allies, and their enemies in order to determine who is the strongest. For a period of time, many felt that Gohan (son of Goku) would be the strongest around due to what was said and done in the Cell Saga finale. But since then…not so much.
However, when Akira Toriyama himself did an interview about the strength of Gohan in reference to the upcoming Dragon Ball movie “Super Hero”, he did have some very interesting comments:
“Gohan is actually stronger than anyone…or so it’s said, but lately he hasn’t really gotten a chance to shine. In order to motivate Gohan, it takes his revered teacher Piccolo rather than his father Goku. I figured I’d try giving birth to a new superhero by putting these two in the spotlight through their intense battles with the Gamma androids.”
Indeed, Super Hero seems to be focused on elevating Gohan to the next level of his power. The “Universal Destruction” arc of Super did tease Gohan going to another level, but then in the manga that came after, he was relegated to the sidelines once again as his father and Vegeta got much stronger.
So we’ll just have to see what happens when the movie arrives a bit later.
