Did Nintendo deliver a new Super Mario Odyssey world at Gamescom this year? They came through, but will the reveal leave you peckish?
This afternoon during a special stage presentation, Super Mario Odyssey director Yoshiaki Koizumi gave Gamescom attendees a special sneak peek at a previously unrevealed area: the Luncheon Kingdom, which is made entirely of food. When he enters the area, he’s greeted by living veggies and hills made of fruit. Even traditional enemies get into the act: Goombas wear chef hats and Hammer Brothers throw frying pans.
The key to the below stage, by the way, is to take control of one of those Hammer Brothers and hurl pans at everything until you uncover the secret lever that will make a Moon materialize. Hammer Bro Mario has the ability to hurl pans like a machine gun, which looks super fun. To get there, though, you have to become something completely different: a living glob of lava (strangely, lava in the Luncheon Kingdom is pink, and it doesn’t resemble any food I know of).
We can’t wait for October 27, the day the Luncheon Kingdom and other areas will be available in Super Mario Odyssey for Nintendo Switch.
