Even when the Pooh book goes into the public domain, Disney will still own all the trademarks to the Pooh characters. That makes the PD thing fuzzy, as we've seen with Sherlock Holmes, Tarzan, Zorro and other properties.
I imagine Disney will be super hawkish about any new adaptation of Pooh, even if they steer clear of their version. Because if they're allowed to exist, that's going to raise serious questions about what will happen when the BIG ONE's number comes up, two years after Pooh.
