Why was Courage the Cowardly Dog airing reruns on CN for so dang long?

Courage the Cowardly Dog ended the year I was born, and yet it still had regular slots on CN's schedule all the way through when I was in 6th grade). I honestly used to think it was a current show when I watched it growing up. How did that happen? When most cartoon shows end, they only stay on for like 2-3 more years at the most, what made Courage so special?

I can only guess that ratings-wise, it did really really well in reruns.
