In 1989, Barry Diller was planning their own children's programming block for Fox Broadcasting Company. Diller seeks to purchases the rights to "Garfield and Friends" from CBS. When Fox Kids premiered in 1990, Garfield and Friends moved from CBS to FOX and aired new episodes there to 1994. In 1996, Saban Entertainment owns the rights to the show, when they acquired 50% of Fox Kids and formed Fox Kids Worldwide.
In 2001, Disney bought the rights to the show, when they acquired Fox Family Worldwide from News Corporation and Haim Saban. (After the struggle with children's programming and the new Fox Family Channel, that they have to sell their own children's division)
In 2013, DHX Media bought the distribution rights to Garfield and Friends from Disney.
