Warner Bros. has inked a multi-year deal with MGM to assume distribution rights to all MGM movies internationally (except the next Bond film) beginning with Bones and All and Creed III, replacing Universal.

MGM movies will still be self-distributed in the US.

I hope this one day leads to a merger of WB-Discovery with Amazon. There's quite a lot of people on here who want the MGM libraries reunited.

That window closed when MGM chose bankruptcy over a sale to Time Warner in 2010. Considering MGM has had more stability than Warner Bros. since then, it was probably a smart move.

Don't be so sure. lowell said multiple times that WBD's current leadership is tailoring the company for a potential sale in the decade. Amazon doing a good job handling MGM as it exists now would only strengthen their case for buying WBD and integrating MGM into it.

Amazon already had a hard time trying to get the MGM deal through (it took them almost a year to close it). Buying WBD would be an even bigger hassle and not worth the wait (especially since Amazon's potential control of Epix, HBO and Prime Video {all three of which are competitors} would be a huge sore point).

Epix would likely be sold off, likely to NBCUniversal.

One thing is by the time Zaslav and Malone are retiring and wanting to cash out their investments into WarnerDiscovery, the landscape would've likely changed enough to make such an acquisition possible but we'll have to see.

Epix would likely be sold off, likely to NBCUniversal.
Epix technically doesn't have to be sold off if Cinemax is already axed or their channels could be integrated into Epix.

Epix's content production team could even be folded into HBO to expand their capabilities.

Prime Video could even be folded into the HBO Max/Discovery+ combined superservice platform at that point.

The way Zaslav's going at things right now at WarnerDiscovery, outside of stability in certain areas like HBO's continued investment, a lot of things could actually change by the time Zaslav wants to actually step down and sell it to someone else.

Also, a combined WBD/MGM under Amazon could feature crossovers between cartoon characters that originated at the old MGM cartoon studio and characters that originated in UA-distributed DFE cartoons. We never had that in the years between the MGM/UA merger and the acquisition of much of MGM/UA's library by Turner.
