The latest bit of news is lingering rumors of a Boba Fett movie. A production listing in London was spotted. The listing had this logline
"An origin story if the galaxy's most notorious bounty hunter. Boba Fett is a Mandalorian warrior who was trained by his father-figure, Jango Fett and became a notorious bounty hunter throughout the galaxy."
So if true, I guess it's set between anywhere Episode 2 and 4.

I think early leaks after the merger was this along with Rogue One and Han Solo was envisioned as a trilogy. Not sure about that since I believe they mentioned Yoda and Obi Wan solos in the same breath some years ago.

I'm sure they were waiting to see the numbers Rogue One did, then I believe they have a summit coming up to plan the next slate of films. It seems like they might do an alternating pattern - an Episode one year, a solo the next, an Episode year after -- and so on.

So far that seem to be the plan. I think they need to rethink their schedule in general. Disney has a massive slate, and based on timing I just hope nothing cannibalistic happens. I personally rather have the Episodes spaced out (no pun intended) a little more. So far Marvel may not be able to do 3 a year like they planned.

Perhaps so, but they may want to finish the new trilogy sooner than later unfortunately. Disney definitely has to juggle a lot more and I think it might be for the better, carving out months they never envisioned for movie releases before.

I'm guessing they'll use the "origin" timeframe to explain away using a younger actor and Boba not sounding like Jango yet...

I was a little leery of the "origin" timeframe because I think some things don't need to told and it seemed revisionist, undoing all that now AU canon from material like the comics.

Question, do we know if the embargo on Yoda's past still applies? George Lucas was adamant that no one, and he meant no one touch Yoda's backstory in the old EU. I'm not sure if that still holds now that the big D is in charge, or if that only meant where Yoda was from (as in stuff Yoda did as a member of the council and Clone Wars was okay, but previous wasn't).

Yoda sells, and if you remember he was the only good guy to get a cover on the steelbooks, so you know they're not just going to let him rot in a corner.

I think they just started looking at Yoda's past in the SW comic this month. I'm not 100% but I think that comic from Marvel is canon.

Even then it's out of Lucas' hands now. Disney can do one if they want to.

As of the DISNEY/Lucasfilm merger ALL comics, novels, and animated tie-ins are canon.

Thanks. Hmm, I wonder if there's going to be a Rogue One crossover on that Rebel One series for a couple episodes where the show and movie converges, if it does. I should probably look up the timeline of that animated series, lol. I read one character from the movie is appearing in some capacity in the least.

Yeah, on Rebels. We'll see what happens further. The comics is also the reason they thought the female lead in Han Solo film would be an AA woman.

I really don't want a prequel for Yoda. Do we really need to know anything else about him or where he comes from? He has a certain mystique to him, and I'd argue a significant portion of that comes from us not knowing a whole lot about him. Our individual ideas of who he is and where he comes from is a lot more powerful than anything Lucasfilm can put on the screen. This is the kind of stuff I was afraid they would do, and what I was talking about earlier when I said I was afraid of them running this thing into the ground. Yoda is an outstanding supporting character, but he should never be a lead in my mind. I don't think Boba Fett is a lead either, as much as I love him. I just hope they don't fall into the same traps that Lucas fell into, not every story needs to be told. Not every character needs a backstory, in fact I'd argue that giving Vader a backstory in the prequels ruined him as a character, in that I struggle to take him seriously. Whenever I see him in the original trilogy, I just remember that he was once whiny Anakin Skywalker. Those movies certainly robbed him of his menace, and I hope Lucasfilm learn from that with other classic characters.

I don't think I'd really want a "where Yoda came from" story, but I would love to see a "Jedi Master Yoda in his prime" story. Maybe 600yo Yoda showing some whippersnappers how it's done. Yoda training Dooku could be another possibility, but I'd rather not with that one.

Even then, I'd say knowing less about Yoda is better than knowing more. Think of each character in the Star Wars movie as an ingredient. We all like salt and we all like sugar, but too much or too little, and the cake won't taste very good. There just isn't enough to Yoda that justifies him anchoring his own movie. As it is, I felt that the prequels used him too much, and I think his character suffered for it. I know lots of people loved seeing him with the lightsaber, but I hated that. Really, I'd be okay if we never saw Yoda again, or at least if they use him sparingly. Less is more with him. I'd rather see an Obi-Wan spinoff, personally. As it is, Frank Oz is in his 70s, and we have no idea if he'll want to do a Star Wars movie without Lucas. Those two go way back.

I would rather know less too. If they expanded at all it should be into other characters. Right now Disney is looking at it from a marketing standpoint.

Kennedy admitted Saw was going to have a larger role in Rogue One but he still may in the greater SW universe. He is set to appear in a 2 parter on the Rebels animated series "The Ghosts of Geonosis" on January 7.

I know, and that's what I'm afraid of. Again, falling into the same traps that Lucas did.

I also don't see the need for a Yoda origin (even the EU usually avoided giving Yoda backstory), but I think a Boba Fett film could really work as a cool bounty hunter story. Heck, I feel that most of these spin-off films shouldn't be origins at all, but should be tales set during the character's prime.

Like, I don't want an Obi-Wan, Darth Maul, or Qui-Gon origin. But a film they star in? Sure.
