‘Justice League’ Powers To $13M Thursday Night – Friday AM Update

EXCLUSIVE: Warner Bros./DC’s Justice League made $13M last night per Warner Bros., which is where some of our more aggressive box office analysts saw it. Previews began at 6PM. Last night’s take is higher than the $11M minted by Wonder Woman before earning a $38.2M Friday ($103.3M opening). Based on these estimates, the notion is that Justice League could fly to a $110M-$115M start and a possible $37M-$40M Friday. Already as of Wednesday, Justice League has already collected $8.5M in nine countries, spurred by Brazil, Korea and France. There are 38 more countries opening today.

Recently, Disney/Marvel’s Thor Ragnarok grossed $14.5M off its Thursday night, which repped a little more than a third of its $46.47M Friday before posting a $122.7M three-day. However, critics embraced the Taika Waititi film, giving is one of Marvel’s best reviews ever at 92% certified fresh. Similar to such DC movies as Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice (27% Rotten) and Suicide Squad (26% Rotten), critics haven’t been kind to Snyder’s super friends entourage pic, smacking the title with a current 36% Rotten. Wonder Woman’s Thursday night repped about 29% of its Friday, while BvS made $27.7M on its Holy Thursday, which contributed to 34% to its $81.55M Good Friday (opening weekend was $166M).

Actually, Justice League's RT score is 39% rotten, not 36%.

Yeah as really think that it is Snyder not that of the pictures over on DC Comics that is the problem. Sorry to say. Seems to be gifted.

I knew JL would make less than Wonder Woman, but not in the 90's. I figured maybe around 100-102. Yeesh, I should have suspected after that screening I was in was plenty seating. In this political climate we're living in, I'm sure the audience just didn't trust this to be an Avengers clone. They knew it was going to be more of the same dark overtone. It really is sad to think we finally have our JL film, and this the results.

It's crazy how a 2017 Justice League film opened with less than the 2008 Iron Man film.

I was so sure that Wonder Woman would give it a boost.

This weekend The Last Jedi has the second highest opening weekend with $220million. In other news, Ferdinand underperformed at $13.2 million. I’m not too concerned with it because I think it will have legs.

Some sites are reporting that Black Panther could have 192 opening weekend and President's Day making it a 220+ 4 day success. Either way those are incredibly impressive numbers and a testament to just how much care Marvel put in promoting and signifying the importance of this movie which yeah I never thought would open so incredibly high. Like if the 192 million is accurate, that's the second highest MCU opening of all time only behind the original Avengers. Pretty sure Marvel would of already announced a second movie with Coogler already if they weren't so concerned with trying to keep a tight lid on they're plans for the Cinematic Universe tight lid until likely after Avengers 4 comes out and we hear exactly what the fourth phase of the MCU will be.

I did hear Feige and company has been busy trying to lock-in Coogler for the sequel. Based on his Creed departure, he may or may not take it. Right now he's golden in Hollywood. 3 for 3.

In what Ryan Coogler doing for Black Panther this weekend at Box Office makes Zack Snyder look real bad, I can't Zack Snyder doing a Big Budget ever again, After what Black Panther did at Box Office in what Justice League was spouse do what Black Panther did at the Box Office.

Zack Snyder will never be as good or the GOAT as Ryan Coogler.

I knew Black Panther would be big...but not THAT big!

It's telling that even Infinity War might struggle to match that opening.

It still blows my mind that we have a C-List hero like Dr. Strange, and his movie made more money than Justice League. And now in four days Black Panther made more money domestically than Justice League did in its entire run?!? A movie about a character who, up to now, was basically a B-List hero. A cut above Dr. Strange, but not on the same level as Superman, Spider-Man, Batman, etc. And Black Panther just trounced all of DC's heavy hitters.

People at Warner Bros. must be looking at those numbers and pitching a fit right now. There's no way they cannot be asking themselves why they're not making movies which are pulling in those kinds of numbers... because they should be. We've had two solo Batman movies make over $1 billion each, and Wonder Woman's first outing make over $800 million. Warner Bros. is sitting on a potentially multibillion dollar film franchise and they're pissing it away. They're not only making it unsuccessful films, but they're damaging multiple character brands. Rather than profiting off their characters, they're devaluing them.

I did hear Feige and company has been busy trying to lock-in Coogler for the sequel. Based on his Creed departure, he may or may not take it. Right now he's golden in Hollywood. 3 for 3.

From what I've heard Coogler said he's had ideas and things he's wanted to do with Black Panther sequels so pretty sure he'll be back for more movies. Honestly from what I heard, Coogler wanted to make Creed but wanted it to be it's own thing and didn't really want to do follow ups. Sylvster Stallone is the one who wanted to do more (as well as executives due to how much Creed made for it's budget) thus why he was inspired to write the script for Creed 2 but from what I hear direct it as well. So if it goes back to just being Sly that's fine since it is his series and if he wants to do more with it and can, then he should.

Yeah, the one thing Infinity War worries me about is it being a 2-parter. Some people may not show up until Avengers 4.

It's not going to have that issue as Infinity War isn't being marketted or talked about as a two parter and is being labled as being more it's own thing and the supposed "big climax" of this phase of the MCU. So it's not going to have that Deathly Hallows/Mockingjay struggle and in fact those movies not doing as well is what made Marvel decide to change the labels of it as a two parter to again each be it's own thing.

Please forgive my ignorance, but why was Black Panther hyped up so much? Was it the black cast?

Partially the black cast and crew (especially because of it's placement in the middle of Black History month to really lean on that "black community" angle) but also people were generally impressive by the overall look and the really positive word of mouth the film recieved and the promise of it being different from other MCU films we've seen before.

I've said this before and I'll say it again: this comes from Warner Brothers thinking they're past "success" with stuff like Watchmen and the Nolan Batman movies could properly translate into a DCEU universe that would be successful but still be different from the MCU so people wouldn't complain about them just trying to rip off the compettiion. Not realizing that those elements don't belong if you're trying to adapt characters like Superman and thus making mistake after mistake. It's obvious they're in the middle of course correcting and it's possible they could fix the mess they're in as Aquaman, Shazzam and Wonder Woman II could still do quite well but doubtful unless they get some severe out of the box thinking in a few years they'll have this sort of massive hit under they're belt anytime soon like BP.
