Similar to the baseball thread, this is the place to discuss all things basketball. The NBA just started it's season tonight and the WNBA concluded its most watched season ever with the New York Liberty winning their first ever championship. This thread is not limited to those leagues, you can talk about college basketball and even international leagues if you follow those.

The WNBA conspiracy theories about the Liberty/Lynx Finals were a lot of fun, down to Cathy Engelbert's NYC-inspired dress LOL.

Anyway, the WNBA players association opted out of their CBA. They have one year to agree to terms or there'll be a lockout.

I would be shocked if the NBA also wasn't headed toward a lockout. I get it, they are making billions in their TV deals, but at some point, you figure the NBA governors are going to get tired of ponying up $35 million/year to the 40-60th best players in the league. I mean, I was reading Reddit today and someone said Alperen Sengun's 5-year, $185 million contract is one of the "biggest bargains in sports history." I have to assume that's tongue-in-cheek. EDIT: that post was unironic.

Yeah, the WNBA had a great season but the intensity from the Caitlin Clark fans and new fans in general caught the league off-guard and they weren't prepared. Hopefully things will be better next season.

History was made last night where LeBron and his son, Bronny played a regular season game together, making them the first father-son duo to do this in the NBA.

Thank you Thunder for not being as embarrassing as my alma mater's college football team or my alma mater's rival's college football team this year. Maybe Chet Holmgren and Jalen Williams has a chance at the All Star Game this year in addition to SGA.

"Characters don't become tax write offs". I'll remember this to myself and I'll keep saying it because nothing in entertainment is going to be permanent. This is with any IP under copyright or trademark. Oswald the Lucky Rabbit was brought out of retirement for example. What about Apu or any other famous character that was "retired", shelved, or fallen out of use? Only if there is a good idea worth telling.
I keep thinking about that scene from one of the most recent episodes of The Simpsons, where the characters complain about a video they just watched being animated, and demand live-action because "they're adults".
