One thing we DON’T have to ask about is who has been nominated…because that was settled this morning. The official list of nominees was published and are there any surprises? Not in the way of the games themselves, but which ones qualified.
Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree is on the Game of the Year list. This isn’t Elden Ring 2, it’s DLC for the original Elden Ring. ER is a popular game, it’s true, but TGA hasn’t allowed DLC to qualify as “a game” in the past and it’s creating controversy….the first of many to come, we’re sure. TGA’s official stance on the matter, as of this year, was stated for the public:
“The Game Awards aims to recognize the best creative and technical work each year, irrespective of the format of that content’s release. Expansion packs, new game seasons, DLCs, remakes and remasters are eligible in all categories, if the jury deems the new creative and technical work to be worthy of a nomination. Factors such as the newness of the content and its price/value should be taken into consideration.”"
